In this tutorial we learn how to install postfwd on Ubuntu.
What is postfwd
postfwd is:
Postfwd is written in perl to combine complex postfix restrictions in a ruleset similar to those of the most firewalls. The program uses the postfix policy delegation protocol to control access to the mail system before a message has been accepted. It allows you to choose an action (e.g. reject, dunno) for a combination of several smtp parameters (like sender and recipient address, size or the client’s TLS fingerprint).
There are three methods to install postfwd on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install postfwd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install postfwd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install postfwd
Install postfwd Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install postfwd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install postfwd
Install postfwd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install postfwd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install postfwd
