Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install popfile on Ubuntu.

What is popfile

popfile is:

POPFile is an tool to classify email with a Naive Bayes classifier, a POP3 proxy and a web interface. It runs on most platforms and with most email clients. It’s not only useful to filter spam, but also to sort legitimate mail into different folders. POPFile can be trained to recognize and sort mails even when no regular mail rules based on header can be made. POPFile can be used also for IMAP. It will move messages into folders and re-classify mails after they have been moved.

There are three methods to install popfile on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install popfile Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install popfile using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install popfile

Install popfile Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install popfile using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install popfile

Install popfile Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install popfile using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install popfile

How To Uninstall popfile on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the popfile package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove popfile

Uninstall popfile And Its Dependencies

To uninstall popfile and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove popfile

Remove popfile Configurations and Data

To remove popfile configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge popfile

Remove popfile configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove popfile configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge popfile
