What is policycoreutils
policycoreutils is:
Security-enhanced Linux is a patch of the Linux® kernel and a number of utilities with enhanced security functionality designed to add mandatory access controls to Linux. The Security-enhanced Linux kernel contains new architectural components originally developed to improve the security of the Flask operating system. These architectural components provide general support for the enforcement of many kinds of mandatory access control policies, including those based on the concepts of Type Enforcement®, Role-based Access Control, and Multi-level Security.
This package contains the core policy utilities that are required for basic operation of an SELinux system. These utilities include load_policy to load policies, setfiles to label filesystems.
There are three methods to install policycoreutils on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install policycoreutils Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install policycoreutils using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install policycoreutils
Install policycoreutils Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install policycoreutils using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install policycoreutils
Install policycoreutils Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install policycoreutils using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install policycoreutils
How To Uninstall policycoreutils on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the policycoreutils package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove policycoreutils
Uninstall policycoreutils And Its Dependencies
To uninstall policycoreutils and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove policycoreutils
Remove policycoreutils Configurations and Data
To remove policycoreutils configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge policycoreutils
Remove policycoreutils configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove policycoreutils configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge policycoreutils
