Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install poa on Ubuntu.
What is poa
poa is:
POA is Partial Order Alignment, a fast program for multiple sequence alignment (MSA) in bioinformatics. Its advantages are speed, scalability, sensitivity, and the superior ability to handle branching / indels in the alignment. Partial order alignment is an approach to MSA, which can be combined with existing methods such as progressive alignment. POA optimally aligns a pair of MSAs and which therefore can be applied directly to progressive alignment methods such as CLUSTAL. For large alignments, Progressive POA is 10-30 times faster than CLUSTALW.
There are three methods to install poa on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install poa Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install poa using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install poa
Install poa Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install poa using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install poa
Install poa Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install poa using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install poa
How To Uninstall poa on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the poa package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove poa
