Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install plasma-optimus on Ubuntu.
What is plasma-optimus
plasma-optimus is:
NVIDIA© Optimus(TM) technology intelligently optimizes your notebook PC, providing the outstanding graphics performance you need, when you need it, all the while extending battery life for longer enjoyment.
This plasmoid provides means to display the active GPU and lets you switch between the Intel and Nvidia GPUs on NVIDIA Optimus equipped computers. It also opens a dialog box that shows processes currently using your Nvidia GPU.
There are three methods to install plasma-optimus on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install plasma-optimus Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install plasma-optimus using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install plasma-optimus
Install plasma-optimus Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install plasma-optimus using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install plasma-optimus
Install plasma-optimus Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install plasma-optimus using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install plasma-optimus
How To Uninstall plasma-optimus on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the plasma-optimus package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove plasma-optimus
Uninstall plasma-optimus And Its Dependencies
To uninstall plasma-optimus and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove plasma-optimus
Remove plasma-optimus Configurations and Data
To remove plasma-optimus configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge plasma-optimus
Remove plasma-optimus configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove plasma-optimus configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge plasma-optimus
