Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install pktools on Ubuntu.
What is pktools
pktools is:
Pktools is a collection of programs to perform operations, mostly on raster geolocated images. It heavily relies on the Geospatial Data Abstraction Library (GDAL) and OGR. The programs are similar to the GDAL tools (gdalinfo, gdal_translate, gdal_merge, …) and some of the functionalities provided in pktools already exist in the GDAL tools.
All utilities in pktools use command line options and have a built in help. They include more than thirty binaries to edit, change, crop, classify, compare, dump, fill, enhance images and many other common operations useful in the remote sensing field of image analysis.
There are three methods to install pktools on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pktools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pktools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pktools
Install pktools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pktools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pktools
Install pktools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pktools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pktools
How To Uninstall pktools on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the pktools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pktools
Uninstall pktools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pktools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pktools
Remove pktools Configurations and Data
To remove pktools configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pktools
Remove pktools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
