In this tutorial we learn how to install pithos on Ubuntu.
What is pithos
pithos is:
Pithos is a cross-platform desktop client for the personalized web radio Pandora, supporting all important features the official Flash™ client has.
Pithos was based on pianobar, a console client for Pandora. In addition to sporting a GTK+ GUI, Pithos has feature-parity with pianobar.
Out of concern for the longevity of Pandora Media Inc., the software authors would recommend subscribing to Pandora One.
Use of this application requires a Pandora account; one can be created for free at https://pandora.com.
There are three methods to install pithos on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pithos Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pithos using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pithos
Install pithos Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pithos using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pithos
Install pithos Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pithos using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pithos
How To Uninstall pithos on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the pithos package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pithos
Uninstall pithos And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pithos and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pithos
Remove pithos Configurations and Data
To remove pithos configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pithos
Remove pithos configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
