What is pipewire-bin
pipewire-bin is:
PipeWire is a server and user space API to deal with multimedia pipelines. This includes:
- Making available sources of video (such as from a capture devices or application provided streams) and multiplexing this with clients.
- Accessing sources of video for consumption.
- Generating graphs for audio and video processing.
This package contains the server and command-line utilities, and should not normally be depended on directly. PipeWire clients should depend on the pipewire package instead.
There are three methods to install pipewire-bin
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pipewire-bin Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pipewire-bin
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pipewire-bin

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pipewire-bin

by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pipewire-bin
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install pipewire-bin
How To Uninstall pipewire-bin on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the pipewire-bin
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pipewire-bin

To uninstall pipewire-bin
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pipewire-bin

configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pipewire-bin
