Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install phybin on Ubuntu.
What is phybin
phybin is:
PhyBin is a simple command line tool that classifies a set of Newick tree files by their topology. The purpose of it is to take a large set of tree files and browse through the most common tree topologies.
It can do simple binning of identical trees or more complex clustering based on an all-to-all Robinson-Foulds distance matrix.
phybin produces output files that characterize the size and contents of each bin or cluster (including generating GraphViz-based visual representations of the tree topologies).
There are three methods to install phybin on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install phybin Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install phybin using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install phybin
Install phybin Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install phybin using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install phybin
Install phybin Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

How To Uninstall phybin on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the phybin package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove phybin

To uninstall phybin and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove phybin
Remove phybin Configurations and Data
To remove phybin configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge phybin
