Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install phing on Ubuntu.
What is phing
phing is:
PHing Is Not GNU make; it’s a project build system based on Apache Ant. You can do anything with it that you could do with a traditional build system like GNU make, and its use of simple XML build files and extensible PHP “task” classes make it an easy-to-use and highly flexible build framework. Features include file transformations (e.g. token replacement, XSLT transformation, Smarty template transformations, etc.), file system operations, interactive build support, SQL execution, and much more.
Phing provides the following features:
- Simple XML buildfiles
- Rich set of provided tasks
- Easily extendable via PHP classes
There are three methods to install phing on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install phing Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install phing using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install phing
Install phing Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install phing using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install phing
Install phing Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install phing using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install phing
How To Uninstall phing on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the phing package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove phing
Uninstall phing And Its Dependencies
To uninstall phing and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove phing
Remove phing Configurations and Data
To remove phing configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge phing
Remove phing configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove phing configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge phing
