In this tutorial we learn how to install pfstools on Ubuntu.
What is pfstools
pfstools is:
pfstools is a set of command line (and two GUI) programs for reading, writing, manipulating and viewing high-dynamic range (HDR) images and video frames. All programs in this package exchange data using a simple generic file format (pfs) for HDR data. It is an attempt to integrate existing file formats by providing a simple data format that can be used to exchange data between applications.
The concept of pfstools is similar to netpbm for low-dynamic range images.
There are three methods to install pfstools on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pfstools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pfstools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pfstools
Install pfstools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pfstools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pfstools
Install pfstools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pfstools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pfstools
How To Uninstall pfstools on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the pfstools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pfstools
Uninstall pfstools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pfstools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pfstools
Remove pfstools Configurations and Data
To remove pfstools configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pfstools
