Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install pexec on Ubuntu.
What is pexec
pexec is:
The main purpose of pexec is to execute the given command in parallel on the local host or on remote hosts, while some of the execution parameters, namely the redirected standard input, output or error and environmental variables can be varied. The capabilities of the program are extended with additional features, such as allowing to define mutual exclusions, do atomic command executions and implement higher level resource and job control. The maximum number of simultaneous tasks can be controlled by a hypervisor daemon: with such a daemon, concurrent pexec instances can be launched without an unexpectedly high load.
There are three methods to install pexec on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pexec Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pexec using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pexec
Install pexec Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pexec using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pexec
Install pexec Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pexec using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pexec
How To Uninstall pexec on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the pexec package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pexec
Uninstall pexec And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pexec and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pexec
Remove pexec Configurations and Data
To remove pexec configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pexec
