In this tutorial we learn how to install pex on Ubuntu.
What is pex
pex is:
pex is a library for generating .pex (Python EXecutable) files which are executable Python environments in the spirit of virtualenvs. pex is an expansion upon the ideas outlined in PEP 441 and makes the deployment of Python applications as simple as cp. pex files may even include multiple platform-specific Python distributions, meaning that a single pex file can be portable across Linux and OS X.
pex files can be built using the pex tool. Build systems such as Pants and Buck also support building .pex files directly.
This is the command line package.
There are three methods to install pex on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install pex Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install pex using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install pex
Install pex Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install pex using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install pex
Install pex Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install pex using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install pex
How To Uninstall pex on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the pex package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove pex
Uninstall pex And Its Dependencies
To uninstall pex and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove pex
Remove pex Configurations and Data
To remove pex configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge pex
Remove pex configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
