In this tutorial we learn how to install perlprimer on Ubuntu.
What is perlprimer
perlprimer is:
PerlPrimer is a free, open-source GUI application written in Perl that designs primers for standard Polymerase Chain Reaction (PCR), bisulphite PCR, real-time PCR (QPCR) and sequencing. It aims to automate and simplify the process of primer design.
If operated online, the tool nicely communicates with the Ensembl project for further insights into the gene structure, i.e., allowing for taking the location of exons and introns into account for the design of the primers. The sequences themselves can be retrieved, too.
There are three methods to install perlprimer on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install perlprimer Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install perlprimer using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install perlprimer

After updating apt database, We can install perlprimer using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install perlprimer using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install perlprimer

To uninstall only the perlprimer package we can use the following command:
