Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install perlmagick on Ubuntu.

What is perlmagick

perlmagick is:

PerlMagick is an objected-oriented Perl interface to ImageMagick. Use the module to read, manipulate, or write an image or image sequence from within a Perl script. This makes it very suitable for Web CGI scripts.

This is a transitional package to help migrate systems to the new libimage-magick-perl perl library.

This is a dummy package. You can safely purge or remove it.

There are three methods to install perlmagick on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install perlmagick Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install perlmagick using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install perlmagick

Install perlmagick Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install perlmagick using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install perlmagick

Install perlmagick Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install perlmagick using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install perlmagick

How To Uninstall perlmagick on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the perlmagick package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove perlmagick

Uninstall perlmagick And Its Dependencies

To uninstall perlmagick and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove perlmagick

Remove perlmagick Configurations and Data

To remove perlmagick configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge perlmagick

Remove perlmagick configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove perlmagick configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge perlmagick
