Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install pd-pduino on Ubuntu.

What is pd-pduino

pd-pduino is:

This package includes a Pd object that allows you to control the Arduino board from Pd without having to program in Arduino’s C++.

WARNING! This version of the [arduino] object for Pd will only work with 2.1 versions of Firmata or newer! It will NOT work with older versions of the firmware! You need to get recent version of Firmata (to run on the arduino board) from https://firmata.org (resp. https://github.com/firmata/arduino)

There are three methods to install pd-pduino on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pd-pduino Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-pduino using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pd-pduino

Install pd-pduino Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-pduino using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pd-pduino

Install pd-pduino Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-pduino using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pd-pduino

How To Uninstall pd-pduino on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the pd-pduino package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pd-pduino

Uninstall pd-pduino And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pd-pduino and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pd-pduino

Remove pd-pduino Configurations and Data

To remove pd-pduino configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pd-pduino

Remove pd-pduino configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pd-pduino configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pd-pduino
