In this tutorial we learn how to install pd-iemnet on Ubuntu.

What is pd-iemnet

pd-iemnet is:

This is a re-implementation of the original pd-net library by Martin Peach, focussing on reliability and performance.

This library adds Pure Data objects that allow one to build a networking infrastructure within Pd on OSI-Layer 4 (transport layer). The objects use threads to allow for non-blocking network communication within an audio-realtime environment.

Since these objects only send/receive lists of bytes, you will most likely need to add some glue to implement higher-level protocols (and transmit meaningful data).

There are three methods to install pd-iemnet on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pd-iemnet Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-iemnet using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pd-iemnet

Install pd-iemnet Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-iemnet using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pd-iemnet

Install pd-iemnet Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-iemnet using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pd-iemnet

How To Uninstall pd-iemnet on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the pd-iemnet package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pd-iemnet

Uninstall pd-iemnet And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pd-iemnet and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pd-iemnet

Remove pd-iemnet Configurations and Data

To remove pd-iemnet configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pd-iemnet

Remove pd-iemnet configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pd-iemnet configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pd-iemnet
