How To Install pd-ambix on Ubuntu

In this tutorial we learn how to install pd-ambix on Ubuntu.

What is pd-ambix

pd-ambix is:

libambix is a library of C routines for reading and writing files following the “ambix” (AMBIsonics eXchange) conventions.

Ambisonics is a periphonic (3D) surround sound technique, with a scalable spatial resolution (put simply: “the more audio channels you use, the better”). The ambix convention defines an extensible format for exchanging soundfiles containing Higher Order Ambisonics data.

This package contains a set of Pure Data (Pd) objects to interact with ambix-files:

There are three methods to install pd-ambix on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install pd-ambix Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-ambix using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install pd-ambix

Install pd-ambix Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-ambix using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install pd-ambix

Install pd-ambix Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install pd-ambix using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install pd-ambix

How To Uninstall pd-ambix on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the pd-ambix package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove pd-ambix

Uninstall pd-ambix And Its Dependencies

To uninstall pd-ambix and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove pd-ambix

Remove pd-ambix Configurations and Data

To remove pd-ambix configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge pd-ambix

Remove pd-ambix configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove pd-ambix configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge pd-ambix
