In this tutorial we learn how to install partimage on Ubuntu.

What is partimage

partimage is:

Partition Image is a partition imaging utility. It has support for the following file systems:

This makes it possible to save a full Linux/Windows system with a single operation. In case of a problem (virus, crash, error, etc.), you just have to restore, and after several minutes, your entire system is restored (boot, files, etc.), and fully working.

This is very useful when installing the same software on many machines: just install one of them, create an image, and restore the image on all other machines.

There are three methods to install partimage on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install partimage Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install partimage using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install partimage

Install partimage Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install partimage using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install partimage

Install partimage Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install partimage using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install partimage

How To Uninstall partimage on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the partimage package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove partimage

Uninstall partimage And Its Dependencies

To uninstall partimage and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove partimage

Remove partimage Configurations and Data

To remove partimage configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge partimage

Remove partimage configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove partimage configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge partimage
