In this tutorial we learn how to install owfs-fuse on Ubuntu.
What is owfs-fuse
owfs-fuse is:
The 1-Wire bus is a cheap low-speed bus for devices like weather sensors, access control, etc. It can be attached to your system via serial, USB, I2C, and other interfaces.
OWFS is a userspace virtual filesystem exposing all 1-Wire properties mapped into a filesystem.
There are three methods to install owfs-fuse on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install owfs-fuse Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install owfs-fuse using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install owfs-fuse
Install owfs-fuse Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install owfs-fuse using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install owfs-fuse
Install owfs-fuse Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install owfs-fuse using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install owfs-fuse
How To Uninstall owfs-fuse on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the owfs-fuse package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove owfs-fuse
Uninstall owfs-fuse And Its Dependencies
To uninstall owfs-fuse and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove owfs-fuse
Remove owfs-fuse Configurations and Data
To remove owfs-fuse configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge owfs-fuse
Remove owfs-fuse configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove owfs-fuse configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge owfs-fuse
