Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install ofono on Ubuntu.
What is ofono
ofono is:
oFono is a stack for mobile telephony devices on Linux. oFono supports speaking to telephony devices through specific drivers, or with generic AT commands.
oFono also includes a low-level plug-in API for integrating with other telephony stacks, cellular modems and storage back-ends. The plug-in API functionality is modeled on public standards, in particular 3GPP TS 27.007 “AT command set for User Equipment (UE).”
This package includes the core daemon.
There are three methods to install ofono on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install ofono Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install ofono using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install ofono
Install ofono Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install ofono using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install ofono
Install ofono Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install ofono using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install ofono
How To Uninstall ofono on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the ofono package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove ofono
Uninstall ofono And Its Dependencies
To uninstall ofono and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove ofono
Remove ofono Configurations and Data
To remove ofono configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge ofono
