In this tutorial we learn how to install octave-mvn on Ubuntu.

What is octave-mvn

octave-mvn is:

This package contains multivariate normal distribution clustering and utility functions for Octave, a scientific computation software. It implements different divergence techniques for similarity computation and also include a k-means clustering method for the multivariate Gaussians and a method to compute native self-organizing maps for multivatiate Gaussians and their divergences.

This Octave add-on package is part of the Octave-Forge project.

There are three methods to install octave-mvn on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install octave-mvn Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install octave-mvn using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install octave-mvn

Install octave-mvn Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install octave-mvn using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install octave-mvn

Install octave-mvn Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install octave-mvn using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install octave-mvn

How To Uninstall octave-mvn on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the octave-mvn package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove octave-mvn

Uninstall octave-mvn And Its Dependencies

To uninstall octave-mvn and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove octave-mvn

Remove octave-mvn Configurations and Data

To remove octave-mvn configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge octave-mvn

Remove octave-mvn configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove octave-mvn configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge octave-mvn
