How To Install nvptx-tools on Ubuntu

Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install nvptx-tools on Ubuntu.
What is nvptx-tools
nvptx-tools is:
The tools consist of
- nvptx-none-as: “assembler” for PTX.
- nvptx-none-ld: “linker” for PTX. Additionally, the following symlinks are installed:
- nvptx-none-ar: link to the GNU/Linux host system’s ar.
- nvptx-none-ranlib: link to the GNU/Linux host system’s ranlib.
There are three methods to install nvptx-tools on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nvptx-tools Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nvptx-tools using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nvptx-tools
Install nvptx-tools Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nvptx-tools using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nvptx-tools
Install nvptx-tools Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nvptx-tools using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nvptx-tools
How To Uninstall nvptx-tools on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the nvptx-tools package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nvptx-tools
Uninstall nvptx-tools And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nvptx-tools and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nvptx-tools
Remove nvptx-tools Configurations and Data
To remove nvptx-tools configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nvptx-tools
Remove nvptx-tools configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove nvptx-tools configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nvptx-tools
