In this tutorial we learn how to install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc on Ubuntu.

What is nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc

nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc is:

The Compute Unified Device Architecture (CUDA) enables NVIDIA graphics processing units (GPUs) to be used for massively parallel general purpose computation.

This package provides the /usr/bin/cuda-gcc, /usr/bin/cuda-g++ symlinks to simplify building packages that need to be built with a CUDA-compatible compiler.

There are three methods to install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc

Install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc

Install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc

How To Uninstall nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc

Uninstall nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc And Its Dependencies

To uninstall nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc

Remove nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc Configurations and Data

To remove nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc

Remove nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge nvidia-cuda-toolkit-gcc
