Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install norsnet on Ubuntu.
What is norsnet
norsnet is:
NORSnet can distinguish between very long contiguous segments with non-regular secondary structure (NORS regions) and well-folded proteins.
NORSnet was trained on predicted information rather than on experimental data. This allows NORSnet to reach into regions in sequence space that are not covered by specialized disorder predictors. One disadvantage of this approach is that it is not optimal for the identification of the “average” disordered region.
NORSnet takes the following input, further described on norsnet(1):
- a protein sequence in a FASTA file
- secondary structure and solvent accessibility prediction by prof(1)
- an HSSP file
- flexible/rigid residues prediction by profbval(1)
There are three methods to install norsnet on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install norsnet Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install norsnet using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install norsnet
Install norsnet Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install norsnet using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install norsnet
Install norsnet Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install norsnet using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install norsnet
How To Uninstall norsnet on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the norsnet package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove norsnet
Uninstall norsnet And Its Dependencies
To uninstall norsnet and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove norsnet
Remove norsnet Configurations and Data
To remove norsnet configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge norsnet
Remove norsnet configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove norsnet configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge norsnet
