In this tutorial we learn how to install node-es5-shim on Ubuntu.
What is node-es5-shim
node-es5-shim is:
The es5-shim library monkey-patches a JavaScript context to contain all ECMAScript 5 methods that can be faithfully emulated with a legacy JavaScript engine.
The es5-sham part tries to complete the picture as best as possible, but for those methods the result is not as close and mostly intends to avoid runtime errors : in many cases it might just silently fail.

There are three methods to install node-es5-shim on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install node-es5-shim using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install node-es5-shim
How To Uninstall node-es5-shim on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the node-es5-shim package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove node-es5-shim

To uninstall node-es5-shim and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove node-es5-shim
