Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install ncaptool on Ubuntu.

What is ncaptool

ncaptool is:

ncap is a network capture library like libpcap (on which it is based) and tcpdump. It produces binary data in its own ncap format, which can be stored in a dump file or transmitted over a UDP socket. Unlike libpcap, it discards data link headers and only supports IPv4 and IPv6 packets, but it can perform reassembly of IP datagrams.

This package contains the ncaptool command line program.

There are three methods to install ncaptool on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install ncaptool Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install ncaptool using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install ncaptool

Install ncaptool Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install ncaptool using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install ncaptool

Install ncaptool Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install ncaptool using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install ncaptool

How To Uninstall ncaptool on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the ncaptool package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove ncaptool

Uninstall ncaptool And Its Dependencies

To uninstall ncaptool and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove ncaptool

Remove ncaptool Configurations and Data

To remove ncaptool configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge ncaptool

Remove ncaptool configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove ncaptool configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge ncaptool
