In this tutorial we learn how to install nagios4-common on Ubuntu.
What is nagios4-common
nagios4-common is:
Nagios is a monitoring and management system for hosts, services and networks. This package contains files needed by both the daemon and web interface.
Nagios’ features include:
- Monitoring of network services (via TCP port, SMTP, POP3, HTTP, NNTP, PING, etc.)
- Plugin interface to allow for user-developed service checks
- Contact notifications when problems occur and get resolved (via email, pager, or user-defined method)
- Ability to define event handlers to be run during service or host events (for proactive problem resolution)
- Web output (current status, notifications, problem history, log file, etc.)
There are three methods to install nagios4-common on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install nagios4-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install nagios4-common using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install nagios4-common
Install nagios4-common Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install nagios4-common using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install nagios4-common
Install nagios4-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install nagios4-common using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install nagios4-common
How To Uninstall nagios4-common on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the nagios4-common package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove nagios4-common
Uninstall nagios4-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall nagios4-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove nagios4-common
Remove nagios4-common Configurations and Data
To remove nagios4-common configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge nagios4-common
