Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install modernize on Ubuntu.
What is modernize
modernize is:
This library is a very thin wrapper around lib2to3 to utilize it to make Python 2 code more modern with the intention of eventually porting it over to Python 3.
This package installs the python-modernize command line tool. It works like 2to3. It does not guarantee, but it attempts to spit out a codebase compatible with Python 2.6+ or Python 3. The code that it generates has a runtime dependency on six, unless the –no-six option is used. Version 1.9.0 or later of six is recommended. Some of the fixers output code that is not compatible with Python 2.5 or lower.
There are three methods to install modernize on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install modernize Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install modernize using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install modernize
Install modernize Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install modernize using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install modernize
Install modernize Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install modernize using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install modernize
How To Uninstall modernize on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the modernize package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove modernize
Uninstall modernize And Its Dependencies
To uninstall modernize and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove modernize
Remove modernize Configurations and Data
To remove modernize configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge modernize
