Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install microsocks on Ubuntu.
What is microsocks
microsocks is:
MicroSocks - multithreaded, small, efficient SOCKS5 server, is a SOCKS5 service that you can run on your remote boxes to tunnel connections through them, if for some reason SSH doesn’t cut it for you.
- It’s very lightweight, and very light on resources too.
- It’s also designed to be robust: it handles resource exhaustion gracefully by simply denying new connections, instead of calling abort() as most other programs do these days.
- Another plus is ease-of-use: no config file necessary, everything can be done from the command line and doesn’t even need any parameters for quick setup.
There are three methods to install microsocks on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install microsocks Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install microsocks using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install microsocks
Install microsocks Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install microsocks using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install microsocks
Install microsocks Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install microsocks using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install microsocks
How To Uninstall microsocks on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the microsocks package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove microsocks
Uninstall microsocks And Its Dependencies
To uninstall microsocks and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove microsocks
Remove microsocks Configurations and Data
To remove microsocks configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge microsocks
