How To Install microcode-initrd on Ubuntu

Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install microcode-initrd on Ubuntu.
What is microcode-initrd
microcode-initrd is:
intel and amd64 microcode are generated together into an early, microcode-only, initrd. This initrd can then be loaded by grub on boot, for otherwise an initrd-less boot.
This package dynamically creates /boot/microcode.cpio whenever any microcode is updated.
There are three methods to install microcode-initrd on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install microcode-initrd Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install microcode-initrd using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install microcode-initrd
Install microcode-initrd Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install microcode-initrd using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install microcode-initrd
Install microcode-initrd Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install microcode-initrd using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install microcode-initrd
How To Uninstall microcode-initrd on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the microcode-initrd package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove microcode-initrd
Uninstall microcode-initrd And Its Dependencies
To uninstall microcode-initrd and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove microcode-initrd
Remove microcode-initrd Configurations and Data
To remove microcode-initrd configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge microcode-initrd
Remove microcode-initrd configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove microcode-initrd configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge microcode-initrd
