What is metadata-cleaner

metadata-cleaner is:

Metadata within a file can tell a lot about you. Cameras record data about when a picture was taken and what camera was used. Office applications automatically add author and company information to documents and spreadsheets. Maybe you do not want to disclose those information.

This tool allows you to view metadata in your files and to get rid of them as much as possible.

Under the hood, it relies on mat2 to parse and remove the metadata.

There are three methods to install metadata-cleaner on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install metadata-cleaner Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install metadata-cleaner using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install metadata-cleaner

Install metadata-cleaner Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install metadata-cleaner using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install metadata-cleaner

Install metadata-cleaner Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install metadata-cleaner using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install metadata-cleaner

How To Uninstall metadata-cleaner on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the metadata-cleaner package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove metadata-cleaner

Uninstall metadata-cleaner And Its Dependencies

To uninstall metadata-cleaner and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove metadata-cleaner

Remove metadata-cleaner Configurations and Data

To remove metadata-cleaner configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge metadata-cleaner

We can use the following command to remove metadata-cleaner configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
