In this tutorial we learn how to install maxima-test
on Ubuntu.
What is maxima-test
maxima-test is:
Maxima is a fully symbolic computation program. It is full featured doing symbolic manipulation of polynomials, matrices, rational functions, integration, Todd-coxeter methods for finite group analysis, graphing, multiple precision floating point computation. It has a symbolic source level debugger for maxima code. Maxima is based on the original Macsyma developed at MIT in the 1970s. It is quite reliable, and has good garbage collection, and no memory leaks. It comes with hundreds of self tests.
This package contains a build integrity test suite.
There are three methods to install maxima-test
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install maxima-test Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install maxima-test
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install maxima-test

After updating apt database, We can install maxima-test

Install maxima-test Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install maxima-test
using aptitude
