In this tutorial we learn how to install masakari-engine on Ubuntu.

What is masakari-engine

masakari-engine is:

Masakari provides Virtual Machine High Availability (VMHA) service for OpenStack clouds by automatically recovering the KVM-based Virtual Machine(VM)s from failure events such as VM process down, provisioning process down, and nova-compute host failure. It also provides API service for manage and control the automated rescue mechanism.

This package contains the Masakari Engine.

There are three methods to install masakari-engine on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install masakari-engine Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install masakari-engine using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install masakari-engine

Install masakari-engine Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install masakari-engine using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install masakari-engine

Install masakari-engine Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install masakari-engine using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install masakari-engine

How To Uninstall masakari-engine on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the masakari-engine package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove masakari-engine

Uninstall masakari-engine And Its Dependencies

To uninstall masakari-engine and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove masakari-engine

Remove masakari-engine Configurations and Data

To remove masakari-engine configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge masakari-engine

Remove masakari-engine configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove masakari-engine configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge masakari-engine
