What is man-db
man-db is:
This package provides the man command, the primary way of examining the system help files (manual pages). Other utilities provided include the whatis and apropos commands for searching the manual page database, the manpath utility for determining the manual page search path, and the maintenance utilities mandb, catman and zsoelim. man-db uses the groff suite of programs to format and display the manual pages.
There are three methods to install man-db
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install man-db Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install man-db
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install man-db

using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install man-db
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install man-db
Install man-db Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
