Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libyang2
on Ubuntu.
What is libyang2
libyang2 is:
Libyang implements functions to process schemas expressed in the YANG data modeling language defined by the IETF in RFCs 6020/7950. Schemas expressed in this language primarily describe configuration used by larger network equipment like routers and switches.
In addition to handling the schemas itself, the library also provides functions to process data described by the schemas.
The library is implemented in C and provides an API for other software to use in processing configurations.
There are three methods to install libyang2
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libyang2 Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libyang2
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libyang2

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libyang2
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libyang2
Install libyang2 Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude

After updating apt database, We can install libyang2
using aptitude

sudo aptitude -y install libyang2
How To Uninstall libyang2 on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libyang2
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libyang2

To uninstall libyang2
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libyang2
Remove libyang2 Configurations and Data

configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libyang2
