What is libxine2-x
libxine2-x is:
This package contains plugins for the xine video/media player engine which are used for video display on the X desktop.
You most probably want to install this package if you are using a graphical front end like gxine, kaffeine or xine-ui. It contains xine output plugins necessary for drawing on X11 displays.
There are three methods to install libxine2-x
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libxine2-x Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libxine2-x
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libxine2-x

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libxine2-x
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libxine2-x
Install libxine2-x Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libxine2-x
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libxine2-x
How To Uninstall libxine2-x on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libxine2-x
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libxine2-x
