Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libvulkan-volk-dev on Ubuntu.

What is libvulkan-volk-dev

libvulkan-volk-dev is:

Volk allows you to dynamically load entrypoints required to use Vulkan without linking to vulkan-1.dll or statically linking Vulkan loader. Additionally, volk simplifies the use of Vulkan extensions by automatically loading all associated entrypoints. Finally, volk enables loading Vulkan entrypoints directly from the driver which can increase performance by skipping loader dispatch overhead.

There are three methods to install libvulkan-volk-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libvulkan-volk-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libvulkan-volk-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libvulkan-volk-dev

Install libvulkan-volk-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libvulkan-volk-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libvulkan-volk-dev

Install libvulkan-volk-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libvulkan-volk-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libvulkan-volk-dev

How To Uninstall libvulkan-volk-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libvulkan-volk-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libvulkan-volk-dev

Uninstall libvulkan-volk-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libvulkan-volk-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libvulkan-volk-dev

Remove libvulkan-volk-dev Configurations and Data

To remove libvulkan-volk-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libvulkan-volk-dev

Remove libvulkan-volk-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libvulkan-volk-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libvulkan-volk-dev
