What is libvolume-key1

This package provides libvolume_key, a library for manipulating storage volume encryption keys and storing them separately from volumes.

The main goal of the software is to allow restoring access to an encrypted hard drive if the primary user forgets the passphrase. The encryption key back up can also be useful for extracting data after a hardware or software failure that corrupts the header of the encrypted volume, or to access the company data after an employee leaves abruptly.

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

After updating apt database, We can install libvolume-key1 using apt by running the following command:

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libvolume-key1 using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libvolume-key1

How To Uninstall libvolume-key1 on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libvolume-key1 package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libvolume-key1

To uninstall libvolume-key1 and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y purge libvolume-key1
