How To Install libvma on Ubuntu

Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libvma on Ubuntu.

What is libvma

libvma is:

libvma is a LD_PRELOAD-able library that boosts performance of TCP and UDP traffic. It allows application written over standard socket API to handle fast path data traffic from user space over Ethernet and/or Infiniband with full network stack bypass and get better throughput, latency and packets/sec rate.

No application binary change is required for that. libvma is supported by RDMA capable devices that support “verbs” IBV_QPT_RAW_PACKET QP for Ethernet and/or IBV_QPT_UD QP for IPoIB.

There are three methods to install libvma on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libvma Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libvma using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libvma

Install libvma Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libvma using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libvma

Install libvma Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libvma using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libvma

How To Uninstall libvma on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libvma package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libvma

Uninstall libvma And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libvma and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libvma

Remove libvma Configurations and Data

To remove libvma configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libvma

Remove libvma configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libvma configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libvma
