Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libvirt-dbus on Ubuntu.

What is libvirt-dbus

libvirt-dbus is:

Libvirt is a C toolkit to interact with the virtualization capabilities of recent versions of Linux (and other OSes). The library aims at providing a long term stable C API for different virtualization mechanisms. It currently supports QEMU, KVM, XEN, OpenVZ, LXC, and VirtualBox.

This package provides access to the libvirt API through D-Bus.

There are three methods to install libvirt-dbus on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libvirt-dbus Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libvirt-dbus using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libvirt-dbus

Install libvirt-dbus Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libvirt-dbus using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libvirt-dbus

Install libvirt-dbus Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libvirt-dbus using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libvirt-dbus

How To Uninstall libvirt-dbus on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libvirt-dbus package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libvirt-dbus

Uninstall libvirt-dbus And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libvirt-dbus and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libvirt-dbus

Remove libvirt-dbus Configurations and Data

To remove libvirt-dbus configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libvirt-dbus

Remove libvirt-dbus configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libvirt-dbus configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libvirt-dbus
