Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libvirt-clients on Ubuntu.
What is libvirt-clients
libvirt-clients is:
Libvirt is a C toolkit to interact with the virtualization capabilities of recent versions of Linux (and other OSes). The library aims at providing a long term stable C API for different virtualization mechanisms. It currently supports QEMU, KVM, XEN, OpenVZ, LXC, and VirtualBox.
This package contains the libvirt shell virsh and other client binaries.
There are three methods to install libvirt-clients on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libvirt-clients Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libvirt-clients using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libvirt-clients
Install libvirt-clients Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libvirt-clients using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libvirt-clients
Install libvirt-clients Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libvirt-clients using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libvirt-clients
How To Uninstall libvirt-clients on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libvirt-clients package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libvirt-clients
Uninstall libvirt-clients And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libvirt-clients and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libvirt-clients
Remove libvirt-clients Configurations and Data
To remove libvirt-clients configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libvirt-clients
Remove libvirt-clients configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libvirt-clients configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libvirt-clients
