Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libu2f-udev on Ubuntu.
What is libu2f-udev
libu2f-udev is:
Libu2f is a package for doing Universal 2nd Factor (U2F) host communication and has functionality for the Registration and Authentication operations.
This package is not necessary anymore, and can be safely removed: since udev v244, U2F devices are autodetected without needing 3rd party udev rules.
There are three methods to install libu2f-udev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libu2f-udev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libu2f-udev using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libu2f-udev
Install libu2f-udev Using apt
Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libu2f-udev using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libu2f-udev
Install libu2f-udev Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libu2f-udev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libu2f-udev
How To Uninstall libu2f-udev on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libu2f-udev package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libu2f-udev
Uninstall libu2f-udev And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libu2f-udev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libu2f-udev
Remove libu2f-udev Configurations and Data
To remove libu2f-udev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libu2f-udev
Remove libu2f-udev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
We can use the following command to remove libu2f-udev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libu2f-udev
