What is libtree-sitter-dev
libtree-sitter-dev is:
Tree-sitter is a parser generator tool and an incremental parsing library. It can build a concrete syntax tree for a source file and efficiently update the syntax tree as the source file is edited.
Tree-sitter aims to be:
- General enough to parse any programming language
- Fast enough to parse on every keystroke in a text editor
- Robust enough to provide useful results even in the presence of syntax errors
- Dependency-free so that the runtime library (which is written in pure C) can be embedded in any application
This package contains the header files and libraries needed for developing with tree-sitter.
There are three methods to install libtree-sitter-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libtree-sitter-dev Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libtree-sitter-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libtree-sitter-dev using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libtree-sitter-dev
