Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libtbb2-dev on Ubuntu.

What is libtbb2-dev

libtbb2-dev is:

TBB is a library that helps you leverage multi-core processor performance without having to be a threading expert. It represents a higher-level, task-based parallelism that abstracts platform details and threading mechanism for performance and scalability.

(Note: if you are a user of the i386 architecture, i.e., 32-bit Intel or compatible hardware, this package only supports Pentium4-compatible and higher processors.)

This package includes the TBB development files.

There are three methods to install libtbb2-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libtbb2-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libtbb2-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libtbb2-dev

Install libtbb2-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libtbb2-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libtbb2-dev

Install libtbb2-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libtbb2-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libtbb2-dev

How To Uninstall libtbb2-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libtbb2-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libtbb2-dev

Uninstall libtbb2-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libtbb2-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libtbb2-dev

Remove libtbb2-dev Configurations and Data

To remove libtbb2-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libtbb2-dev

Remove libtbb2-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libtbb2-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libtbb2-dev
