In this tutorial we learn how to install libsword-common on Ubuntu.

What is libsword-common

libsword-common is:

The SWORD Project is an open source, cross-platform (Linux, Windows, Solaris, MacOSX etc.) API/library for Bible software with a constantly growing list of front-ends (GUI, textmode, web-based, etc.) and a library of over 200 text modules.

This package contains sword configuration and global module repository.

There are three methods to install libsword-common on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libsword-common Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libsword-common using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libsword-common

Install libsword-common Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libsword-common using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libsword-common

Install libsword-common Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libsword-common using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libsword-common

How To Uninstall libsword-common on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libsword-common package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libsword-common

Uninstall libsword-common And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libsword-common and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsword-common

Remove libsword-common Configurations and Data

To remove libsword-common configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libsword-common

Remove libsword-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libsword-common configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:
