In this tutorial we learn how to install libsndio-dev on Ubuntu.

What is libsndio-dev

libsndio-dev is:

Sndio is a small, simple audio and MIDI framework, developed by the OpenBSD project. It provides a lightweight audio and MIDI server and a well-documented userspace API to access the server or audio hardware in a uniform way. Sndio is designed to work well for both desktop and professional music applications, and supports features found in more complex sound systems such as per-application volume control, software mixing, and network transparency.

This package contains development files and documentation for the sndio userspace libraries.

There are three methods to install libsndio-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libsndio-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libsndio-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libsndio-dev

Install libsndio-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libsndio-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libsndio-dev

Install libsndio-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libsndio-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libsndio-dev

How To Uninstall libsndio-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libsndio-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libsndio-dev

Uninstall libsndio-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libsndio-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsndio-dev

Remove libsndio-dev Configurations and Data

To remove libsndio-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libsndio-dev

Remove libsndio-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libsndio-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libsndio-dev
