Introduction

In this tutorial we learn how to install libsane-dev on Ubuntu.

What is libsane-dev

libsane-dev is:

SANE stands for “Scanner Access Now Easy” and is an application programming interface (API) that provides standardized access to any raster image scanner hardware (flatbed scanner, hand-held scanner, video- and still-cameras, frame-grabbers, etc.). The SANE standard is free and its discussion and development are open to everybody. The current source code is written to support several operating systems, including GNU/Linux, OS/2, Win32 and various Unices and is available under the GNU General Public License (commercial applications and backends are welcome, too, however).

This package contains the files needed to build your applications using SANE.

There are three methods to install libsane-dev on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.

Install libsane-dev Using apt-get

Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.

sudo apt-get update

After updating apt database, We can install libsane-dev using apt-get by running the following command:

sudo apt-get -y install libsane-dev

Install libsane-dev Using apt

Update apt database with apt using the following command.

sudo apt update

After updating apt database, We can install libsane-dev using apt by running the following command:

sudo apt -y install libsane-dev

Install libsane-dev Using aptitude

If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.

sudo aptitude update

After updating apt database, We can install libsane-dev using aptitude by running the following command:

sudo aptitude -y install libsane-dev

How To Uninstall libsane-dev on Ubuntu

To uninstall only the libsane-dev package we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get remove libsane-dev

Uninstall libsane-dev And Its Dependencies

To uninstall libsane-dev and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsane-dev

Remove libsane-dev Configurations and Data

To remove libsane-dev configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y purge libsane-dev

Remove libsane-dev configuration, data, and all of its dependencies

We can use the following command to remove libsane-dev configurations, data and all of its dependencies, we can use the following command:

sudo apt-get -y autoremove --purge libsane-dev
