Introduction
In this tutorial we learn how to install libsane-common
on Ubuntu.
What is libsane-common
libsane-common is:
SANE stands for “Scanner Access Now Easy” and is an application programming interface (API) that provides standardized access to any raster image scanner hardware (flatbed scanner, hand-held scanner, video- and still-cameras, frame-grabbers, etc.). The SANE standard is free and its discussion and development are open to everybody. The current source code is written to support several operating systems, including GNU/Linux, OS/2, Win32 and various Unices and is available under the GNU General Public License (commercial applications and backends are welcome, too, however).
This package includes documentation for libsane, such as the man pages and list of supported scanners, and support files (i18n data).
There are three methods to install libsane-common
on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get
, apt
and aptitude
. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libsane-common Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get
using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libsane-common
using apt-get
by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libsane-common

Update apt database with apt
using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libsane-common
using apt
by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libsane-common
Install libsane-common Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude
using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libsane-common
using aptitude
by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libsane-common
How To Uninstall libsane-common on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libsane-common
package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libsane-common
Uninstall libsane-common And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libsane-common
and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libsane-common
Remove libsane-common Configurations and Data
To remove libsane-common
configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libsane-common
Remove libsane-common configuration, data, and all of its dependencies
