In this tutorial we learn how to install libpseudo on Ubuntu.
What is libpseudo
libpseudo is:
The pseudo utility offers a way to run commands in a virtualized “root” environment, allowing ordinary users to run commands which give the illusion of creating device nodes, changing file ownership, and otherwise doing things necessary for creating distribution packages or filesystems.
Pseudo has a lot of similarities to fakeroot but is a new implementation that improves on the problems seen using fakeroot. Pseudo is now extensively used by Poky as a replacement to fakeroot but can also be used standalone in many other use cases.
This package contains the LD_PRELOAD libraries.
There are three methods to install libpseudo on Ubuntu. We can use apt-get, apt and aptitude. In the following sections we will describe each method. You can choose one of them.
Install libpseudo Using apt-get
Update apt database with apt-get using the following command.
sudo apt-get update
After updating apt database, We can install libpseudo using apt-get by running the following command:
sudo apt-get -y install libpseudo

Update apt database with apt using the following command.
sudo apt update
After updating apt database, We can install libpseudo using apt by running the following command:
sudo apt -y install libpseudo
Install libpseudo Using aptitude
If you want to follow this method, you might need to install aptitude first since aptitude is usually not installed by default on Ubuntu. Update apt database with aptitude using the following command.
sudo aptitude update
After updating apt database, We can install libpseudo using aptitude by running the following command:
sudo aptitude -y install libpseudo
How To Uninstall libpseudo on Ubuntu
To uninstall only the libpseudo package we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get remove libpseudo
Uninstall libpseudo And Its Dependencies
To uninstall libpseudo and its dependencies that are no longer needed by Ubuntu, we can use the command below:
sudo apt-get -y autoremove libpseudo
Remove libpseudo Configurations and Data
To remove libpseudo configuration and data from Ubuntu we can use the following command:
sudo apt-get -y purge libpseudo
